CHAS SERVICE RIFLE LEAGUE 2026 LEE ENFIELD AND ROSS '303' MATCH
Sunday July 5, 11 AM at the Canadian Historical Arms Society Genesee Range located at 3356 TWP RD 510, Leduc County, AB T5J2L8
- Match fee - $10 for CHAS members, $30 for non members. FREE for age 18 and under.
- .303 is not an requirement, .308 rifles (Ishapores, DCRA) and
centerfire conversions to other calibres are welcome - but it should
be Lee ish, Enfield ish, or Ross ish.. P14 and M1917's count as
Enfields. Martinis sneak in. I wait for someone to show up with a
Lee Navy or Remington Lee. Don't worry if bubu got to it, come
shoot it, even if it was grandpa's moose masher!
- NEW this year we have a Rimfire match that will run concurrently to the centrefire match. It is focused on single shot military training rifles.
Courses of Fire
Standard Course of Fire
(40 rounds) Iron Sights Only
Shooter Categories: (The rifle you shoot determines your category, category matters for bragging rights and prizes)
- Victoria and Edward: Lee Metfords, Non Charger Loading Lee Enfields, Ross Mk I and Ross Mk II, Lee Navy 6mm, Remington Lee, Martini Henry.
- WWI: SMLE, CLLE, Ross MkIII, P14, M1917
- WWII: LE No 4 or LE No 5.
Target at both distances is the standard
British 48
inch second class figure target. 3 points are scored for hits
within the inner 24" circle, 2 points are scored for hits within the
outer 36" circle and 1 point is scored for hits within the 48"
square of the target. Shooting is done unsupported, slings are
permitted.
- At 200 meters ten rounds standing in five minutes.
- At 200 meters ten rounds in 40 seconds starting with five rounds in the magazine from the standing position.
- At 300 meters ten rounds prone in five minutes.
- At 300 meters ten rounds in 60 seconds starting with five rounds in the magazine from the prone position.
Shooters will shoot in two relays, four shooters in one relay at 200 meters and four
shooters in another relay at 300 meters, targets will be scored, then the relays will
switch positions to shoot the other distance.
Rimfire course of Fire
(40 rounds) Iron Sights Only
Shooter Categories: (The rifle you shoot determines your category, category matters for bragging rights and prizes)
- Military Trainer
- Any iron sighted manually operated military trainer rifle in something like original condition, or any reasonable facsimile thereof. (Obviously C No 7's, Lee Enfield Trainers, and Cooeys or Rosses are the best, but we'll admit others)
- Open
- Any other iron sighted rimfire rifle you can fire single loading. If your rifle tends to be more like a target rifle than a military trainer or upgraded as such (globe/target style sights, biathalon rifle, etc. etc.) This is where you will shoot.
3 points are scored for hits
within the inner circle, 2 points are scored for hits within the
outer circle and 1 point is scored for hits anywhee within the coloured portion of the target.
Shooting is done unsupported, slings are
permitted.
Rimfire for this match is SINGLE SHOT ONLY if your rifle is a repeater you must load and fire one round at a time!
- At 50 meters ten rounds standing in five minutes.
- At 50 meters ten rounds in 60 seconds.
- At 75 meters ten rounds prone in five minutes.
- At 75 meters ten rounds in 80 seconds.
Shooters will shoot in two relays, four shooters in one relay at 50 meters and four
shooters in another relay at 75 meters, targets will be scored, then the relays will
switch positions to shoot the other distance.
Sniper Course of Fire
(15 rounds) Scopes permitted, max 4x
Shooter Category
- Sniper: Any rifle from the standard
categories above, Scopes are permitted set to max 4x power
while shooting. The intent here is simple, you can shoot a
scoped period correct rifle (not your PRS or F-class rifle -
here is where you bring your No 4 Mk1(T), DCRA Target rifle, L42, or
Grandpa's scoped bubu'ed surplus Moose Masher)
The Sniper course of fire will run concurrent to the Standard course
of fire. Shooters wishing to shoot both Sniper and Standard may do
so time permitting. Target scoring will be done by the RSO
witnissing target hit indicators on the steel targets.
Slings and a Sandbag or Shooting Bag rest may be used.
- Five rounds at 8 inch steel gong target at 300 meters in 5 minutes -- 5 pts per hit.
- Five rounds at a sil shape steel target at 500 meters in 5 minutes -- 5 pts per hit.
- Five rounds at a sil shape steel target at 700 meters in 5 minutes -- 10 pts per hit.
Mad Minute
(20 rounds or more reccomended, run at end of match) Iron sights only
The Mad minute will be run at the end of the match. Time and shooters permitting. Any centrefire rifle
that qualifies to shoot the Standard course of fire may be used, You do not need to shoot the same rifle you shot the Standard course with.

- From any position at 200 meters, unlimited rounds in 60 seconds starting with a full magazine. One point is awarded for each round fired, in addition to the target score.

There will be 6 prizes awarded (of the Highland, Lowland, or Islay sort of prize)
- Top Victoria and Edward in the Standard course of fire.
- Top WWI In the Standard course of fire.
- Top WWII in the Standard course of fire.
- Top Sniper in the Sniper course of fire.
- Top Score in the Mad Minute.
- Best Dressed (as judged by the sponsor of the Bottle).
There will be a further two (more youth friendly) prizes awarded for
- Top Military Trainer in Rimfire.
- Top Open in Rimfire.
